Chapter 23

This morning when I picked up the newspaper I couldn’t help but smile, I had been right – on the front page of every paper was a picture of Sidney and I kissing while holding the Stanley Cup above our heads. That is definitely a picture for the wall.

The press have been in their element since they found out that Sidney and I are together. Thankfully they are still letting us have our privacy. I think it would have been harder for us to be in a relationship if they had bothered us every minute.

The next few days I spent most of my time with my family although I had to pop into the office on a few occasions as there was so much needing done even though the season was finished. Most of the team were away home for a couple of weeks so I knew that I would not hear from anyone unless they received an injury or until Geno and Kirsty’s wedding. Sidney too was away home but he was coming back tomorrow with his family.

My family all loved my house and the area I lived in, they were also astonished when they seen my office. They loved being in the company of the team the night of the cup final so I therefore asked them to move over and stay in Pittsburgh permanently.

I went into the office for a while and let my parents and brother think about what I had just asked them. I spoke to Mario about houses and if there were any suitable jobs that my family could apply for. There were several jobs that would suit and I knew that no applications would be required, just like when Kirsty moved over, he would take my word and employ them for the most suited jobs.

Mario gave me some house keys of places he had available for them to have a look around and some job descriptions that we both thought were suitable.

I took them home and sat down with my family around the kitchen table, I explained to them what I had arranged and the package they would receive if they decide that moving over is the right thing to do.

We went to the house that Mario had mentioned for Andy first, it was only a few streets away from me and still had an amazing view of the river and the marina. The house was much like mine although one of the bedrooms had been converted into a games room with a pool table, table football, dart board – everything a young lad would want – it even had the top of the range games consoles with a range of games. Andy fell in love there are then and I knew that he would accept the offer. He asked if I could arrange a meeting with Mario, he wanted to talk to him himself.

The houses that Mario had given me keys for that were suitable for Mum and Dad were in the area where he stayed with his family, it was about a 20 minute drive from Andy and I and about 30 minutes from the Melon Arena. All 3 houses were gorgeous. These houses did not have gyms and swimming pools but instead they had gorgeous gardens and large conservatories, I knew by there faces that they were very tempted.

They asked if they could borrow the car so that they could explore the area and have a talk about what was available to them. They dropped Andy and I off at my house where I picked up the keys to the 4 x 4 which lay in my garage virtually unused since the winter and I took Andy to the office to see Mario. I took this as an opportunity to get some work done in the office as I knew that when Sidney came home I would not be wanting to be in the office for long.

3 Hours later Andy comes out of Mario’s office and tells me that he has been offered a proposition that he would be stupid to turn down.

Straight away Andy’s visa application was sent off. “Andy you are going to love it here, I just know that you will fit in and be happy”.

An hour or so later Mum and Dad appeared at the office and went straight in to see Mario.

Andy asked if we could go down to the ice since the team were away so I checked to see if we had any skates that would fit him and headed down to the freshly frozen ice.

Andy was hilarious, he could not even stand on the ice. After half an hour he was able to skate around the rink without falling down but I knew we had a lot of work to do before he would be able to skate properly.

We messed about for a while longer and eventually we agreed we would go home and put the tea on, if we had time before Mum and Dad came home we could go for a swim.

Eventually Mum and Dad came in after their meeting with Mario and the explained that they have applied for their visas and have accept jobs within the NHL and will look to move into one of the houses when they come back over from Scotland. What a great day, I can’t wait until Sidney comes home tomorrow.
