Chapter 3

Within 2 months I was standing at gate 4, Glasgow airport, waving goodbye to my family. I found my seat on the aeroplane and although I was sad I was very excited about the challenges that lay ahead of me.

As the plane lowered over Pittsburgh I could see some beautiful sites, the city was huge. I was so excited. I went and collected my luggage and found my way out to the front of the airport, just then I noticed Mario standing in the distance with a big sign saying “HI GILL” with a penguin and a smiley face painted beside my name! What a good start, it made me laugh.

All the way from the airport to my new house we talked like we have known each other all our lives, I was so relaxed and my first day had only just begun.

He dropped me off at my new house and told me he would pick me up at 0900 the next morning to take me in to the office where I would pick up my new car and meet my colleagues. He also left me his phone number in case I needed anything.

The first thing I did when I got in was explore my new home, it was amazing, huge rooms, a wonderful view, a gym, indoor and outdoor swimming pool, it was like a palace, even the décor was perfect.

I started unpacking when suddenly I realised I had no way of getting to any shops to get anything to eat, I wondered about phoning Mario to ask him to bring me some milk etc. As I headed back down the stairs to get my phone for some reason I opened the fridge door, it was filled with fresh pasta, chicken, vegetables, fruit, milk, juice… in fact anything you could think of needing. After finding my fridge full I started looking through the cupboards to find them full of food, juice, tea, coffee, cleaning products, pots, pans, a kettle, everything I could think of needing!! I started to laugh. I never knew things would work out half as well as they have so far.

I spent the rest of the evening after getting something to eat finding my essentials, having a nice relaxing long shower and finally having an early night so that I was fresh for work the next day.
